Abstract

1,069,407. Ophthalmoscopes. R. RODENSTOCK [trading as OPTISCHE WERKE G. RODENSTOCK]. July 3, 1964 [July 11, 1963], No. 27615/64. Heading G2J. An ophthalmoscope comprises an observing device 13, a substantially linear light source 7, a back reflecting system including a mirror 12 for forming an image of the source 7 adjacent and parallel to the source, and an optical system for producing a flat light beam from the source, the mirror 12 being mounted so as to be readily removable and replaceable in order to decrease or increase the brightness of the light beam. The observing device, for example a microscope, is provided with at least one objective co-operating with a diaphragm having a slit aperture of variable width orientated parallel to the plane containing the light beam entering the patient's eye. When the mirror 12 is absent a filamentary flash bulb 10 is imaged adjacent the source 7 so as to provide a high intensity of illumination when photographing the eye.
