Abstract

1446869 Ophthalmometers AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 29 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972 (4)] 55524/73 Heading G2J In an ophthalmometer for the measuring and viewing of a patient's cornea, mirrors 34, Fig. 6, and 30, Figs. 5 and 6, are simultaneously moved to direct light from the cornea to either travel in the line indicated in Fig. 5, to allow an observer to view the cornea or travel in the line indicated in Fig. 6, to allow the observer to measure the radius of curvature of the cornea. The light used to illuminate the cornea may be diffused by appropriate filters or the cornea may be flooded with ultraviolet light. Instead of a patients eye contact lenses may be viewed and measured an appropriate stand being provided for this purpose such stand having a support 140, Fig 8 (not shown) which is flooded with water under pressure. The optical system shown in Figs. 5 and 6 comprises light source 94, mire 82, elliptical reflector 84 magnifying lenses 46, inchromatic wedges 38, lenses 40 and magnifying lenses 48. Three fixed mirrors 52, 54 and 56 are fixed to a Porro frame lens 46 being mounted within an aperture in the frame. Lens 44 and fixed mirror 36 are also provided.
