Abstract

1,068,440. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 20, 1964 [Nov. 13, 1963], No. 42703/64. Heading H1X. The dielectric 23 in a spark discharge electrode is a bonded particulated material which is bonded to conductive members 16 and 17. The material is preferably so composed as to be eroded at the same rate as the members 16 and 17 when used in an electrohydraulic system. The members 16 and 17 may be a stainless steel tube and a brass rod respectively, and may be of unequal lengths as shown, or of equal lengths. Other suitable conductive materials are copper and steel. The material 23 may be a mixture of powdered alumina and a cured liquid epoxy resin-catalyst composition in approximately equal parts. Other suitable ceramic materials are zirconia and calcium carbonate. Asbestos or glass fibres may be incorporated in the ceramic. Working fluid is supplied through a water jacket 19 slidably mounted on the tube 16 and connected by a spring 20 to a brass connector-ring 24 secured to the tube 16. The electrode may be connected via a coaxial cable 28 to a circuit described in Specification 1,047,730.
