Abstract

1,068,022. Hearing aids. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 27, 1964 [Feb. 1, 1963], No. 4989/63. Heading H4JIn a hearing aid provided with a battery container movable from a position in which contacts connect the battery in circuit to a position in which the container projects to enable the battery to be changed, means are provided for holding the container in an inter. mediate position in which at least one of the contacts is precluded from electrically connecting the battery. A hearing aid (Fig. 2) designed to fit behind the ear has an aperture 2 leading to a microphone and a tube 1 connecting an earphone to an ear plug (not shown). An amplifier and knurled volume control (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), are provided. The battery container (5) houses a cylindrical battery and has a closed position in which opposite exterior surfaces (6, 7), Fig. 4 (not shown), close openings in the casing (4). The container (5) is a tray, its base being a metal member (9) to which is adhered an insulating lining (14). A pair of conductive spring strips (10, 11) in the casing 4 connect opposite terminals of the battery when the container (5) is closed. Strip (11) carries a part spherical contact (13). To slide the container (5) out of the casing 4, a lug 8 secured to the container (5) is pressed to displace the contact (13) against the pressure of strip (11). The container (5) may be moved sufficiently to enable the battery to be changed, lugs preventing complete withdrawal. An eccentric hole (15) in container (5) will detain contact (13) and thereby hold container (5) in the intermediate " off position.
