Abstract

1,067,639. Dry shavers. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. March 28, 1966 [April 6, 1965], No. 13582/66. Heading B4B. An electric dry shaver comprises an outer easing 11 having an opening in the upper end thereof and an inner casing 15 slidably mounted in the easing 11 and having detachably secured thereto a cutter head 25 comprising a cutter surface exposed in the opening in the casing 11, the casing 11 having mounted thereon actuating means operable to move the casing 15 between spaced limit positions within the casing 11 to place the cutter head at selected elevated positions in the opening. The actuating means comprises a manually rotatable button 46 mounted on an outer face of the casing 11, the button having a projection 55 in driving engagement with a cam slot 56 in the casing 15. The cutter head is maintained at any selected elevated position by detent means comprising a spring 58 mounted on the casing 11 and having a detent portion (62, Fig. 6) which co-operates with notches formed on the hub 48 of button 46. The cutter head has pivotally mounted at opposite ends thereof protective flaps 70, 71 having lugs 81 engaging resilient fingers 79 to maintain the flaps against the ends of the cutter head, the flaps having projections 82 engageable with wall portions (14a, Fig. 5) of the casing 11 to pivot the flaps to open condition when the cutter head is fully exposed.
