Abstract
Pigmentary titanium dioxide is produced by calcining conditioned titanium dioxide, leaching with aqueous mineral acid at pH below 4, adjusting the pH of the suspension to a value of at least 5 (preferably 7) and separating the TiO2 from suspension. Thereafter it is subjected to milling and/or coating processes to produce the pigment. Conditioning agents mentioned are compounds of zinc antimony and/or tin (particularly oxides) potassium, sodium or aluminium compounds and phosphorus containing compounds. Sulphuric acid is the desired leaching agent. Dispersing agents mentioned are alkali metal silicates, polyphosphates or amines.
