Abstract

1,067,191. Pneumatic conveyers. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Oct. 10, 1963 [Oct. 17, 1962; Nov. 5, 1962; April 4, 1963; May 21, 1963 (2)], No. 40035/63. Heading B8A. In apparatus for feeding particulate material such as pulverized fuel to the multiple tuyeres (45), Fig. 1 (not shown), of a furnace (46) the material collected in an open bin (30) passes through multiple hoppers outlets (32) to a series of rotary feeders (34) from which the particles are pneumatically conveyed at superatmospheric pressure to flow splitters (42) each of which divides the flow equally into two parts leading to separate tuyeres (45) and described in Specification 1,067,192. The multiple rotary feeders 34 each comprise a housing 100, Fig. 3, containing a toothed rotor 108 set between wear plates 122, 124, held by bolted end members 102, 104. Discshaped seals 126, at each end have flanges 127, carrying U-section seal rings 130 in annular recesses 132 of the rotor 106. The material is fed downwardly through an inlet 116 at the top of the housing 100 and is removed in the axial direction at the lower part of the housing through an outlet 144 in the wear plate 122, which is arranged oppositely to an air inlet 146 coupled to one of the manifold pipes 38 from the supply line (36) (Fig. 1) of the pneumatic conveyer system. Scavenging of the rotor disc 108 is provided by radially directed outlets (64), (66) (Fig. 4, not shown), in the rotor housing 100. The outlet (64) is provided with a branch inlet (70) for heated scavenging air and the outlet (66) is coupled to a vacuum source (80) and to atmosphere through a branch (142) to provide for additional scavenging at low pressure to assist subsequent entry of material from the inlet 116. In a modification an L-section seal (434) (Fig. 10 (not shown), is clamped as at (428) to rotor and is pressed radially outwardly into contact with the wear plate (322) by a split ring (356). A tuyere (545), Fig. 18 (not shown), is described in Specification 1,067,193.
