Abstract

[Also in Division E2] Each section of a hatchway cover comprises a power-activated panel (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), hinged at (11) at one side of the hatchway, a trailing panel (15) and a relatively narrow intermediate panel (16), the three panels being articulated relative to each other and having intermeshing toothed quadrants (17) projecting from the adjacent sides of the activated and trailing panels. Lugs (18) extending downwardly from links (13) and tie-rods (19), one end of each of which works in slots (20), form trusses which support the panels (10), (15), (16) in their closed position and maintain the intermediate panel (16) in a substantially horizontal position during the opening and closing of the panels. Chains or cables (24) may take the place of tie-rods (19) and the panels may be raised hydraulically or otherwise.
