Abstract
1,066,990. Waste heat boilers; superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Dec. 29, 1965 [Dec. 29, 1964], No. 52598/64. Heading F4A. A water tube boiler situated in a vertical exhaust flue of a Diesel engine comprises a number of parallel tubulous panels 1 (and see Fig. 2, not shown) connected in series or parallel, each panel consisting of a number of horizontal finned tube lengths 2 connected by return bends 3 to form a single sinuous flow path between inlet and outlet headers 4, 5 respectively. Alternate tube lengths 2 are welded at opposite ends W to panel support plates 6 and 7, the non-welded ends passing through clearance apertures C in the support plates, adjacent finned tube lengths 2 having stiffening welds 8 at their centres whereby they may be interconnected, or being interconnected by bridging pieces if need be. The support plates 6, 7 of each panel are bolted to horizontal buckstays 9, 10 which also support reinforced insulating walls 11, 12 and (17, 18) defining the exhaust flue. Single bend superheater panels 19 may be disposed upstream of the vapour generating panels, which superheater panels may be additionally supported from buckstays 21, 22.
