Abstract
1,066,584. Ignition systems. VILLIERS ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., N.M. CORFIELD and K.A. SMITH. April 21, 1964 [July 3, 1963], No.26320/63. Addition to 922, 330. Heading F1B. In an ignition system comprising a rotary generator driven from the engine and including a coil 10 which is connected through a rectifier 11 to charge a condenser 12 which is connected in a series circuit with a silicon controlled rectifier 14 and the primary of a step up transformer 13, engine driven means are provided for intermittently delivering electrical impulses to the silicon controlled rectifier to render it conducting to allow the condenser to discharge through the series circuit. In a modification the condenser 12 is replaced by two storage condensers in series charged through separate rectifiers. One or more Zener diodes may be connected between the silicon controlled rectifier 14 and the primary winding of the transformer 13. The generator 16 may be incorporated in the main charging generator 10. Alternatively for providing the firing impulse, the engine may mechanically operate electrical contacts controlling a small part of the energy stored in the condenser 12, or energy from the generator 10 or a winding especially provided thereon for that purpose.
