Abstract
1,066,508. Valves. J. E. BROWN. Dec. 30, 1963 [Dec. 27, 1962], No. 48668/62. Heading F2V. A non-return valve for liquids or gases comprises a flexible tubular member 1 of elastic material having one end 5 closed but formed with an aperture 10, the walls of which are kept pressed together by the elasticity of the material, the aperture being formed as a longitudinal slit in the centre of a thin edge formed by the junction of an outwardly convex member 11 and an opposed outwardly concave member 12, the liquid or gas being admitted to the member through the open end 3 thereof. At the open end 3 is a beaded or rolled edge 4, so that it may be engaged at a tubular nozzle by stretching this edge. The closed end 5 is semicircular in cross-section, the upper member 11 remaining semicircular through the length of the valve whilst the lower member 12 changes from its concave shape at said closed end to a convex shape to form a circular tube at the open end. The tube walls are substantially thin for some way back from the slit. When the slit is open, the elliptical shape formed will have an area substantially equal to the internal cross-section of the nozzle 13 or pipe at which the valve is to be fitted. The tubular member 1 may be of rubber, synthetic rubber or a suitable plastics material.
