Abstract

713,999. Valves. GRANT, V. D., and PRINCE, C. A. Oct. 13, 1952 [April 30, 1952], No. 10850/52. Class 135 A valve comprises a flexible, e.g. rubber, tubular closure member e, Fig. 1, having end flanges f clamped between flanges on a valve body a and its end covers g. A rotary plug h, supported in one end cover and passing through the other, is formed with diametrically oppositely disposed grooves n supporting rollers i which co-operate with the interior of the member e between its ends to deform it to elliptical cross section. As shown in Fig. 3, the rollers i deform the member e to permit flow of fluid through the valve passage b, c. On rotation of the plug through 90 degrees the rollers deform the member e to close this valve passage. The valve body may be lined with the same material as that from which the member e is made to protect it against corrosive fluids. This lining may be separate from the member e or formed integral therewith. Specification 623,696 is referred to.
