Pouches &c. - Woven pocketed carriers, such as are employed as cartridge. carriers, hospital corps belts, medical-officers belts, &c., are formed with a woven cover, which encloses the top, sides and front. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the woven belt 1 has one or more woven pockets 2, which are shown expanded by packages 3. Each cover is formed of two woven strips, one 4, 5, 6 passing from back to front and bent twice at right-angles, the other 7, 8 passing from side to side and also bent twice at right-angles. One extremity 4 of the first-mentioned strip is inserted in a housing- slit in the belt and is secured by stitching, and the two strips which cross at the top, making that part of double thickness, are stitched together along the four edges of the top. They are also stitched together along the side edges, the cover thus forming a hood for the pockets. The free ends of the front 6 and of the sides 7 are folded and hemmed. The cover is secured in place by a press-fastening 11, 12. Instead of the strip that passes from side to side being stitched to the top, it may be stitched to the front flap, thereby producing a hood having a single thickness at the top but a double thickness at the front. Or again, both top and front may be of single thickness. This may be done by stitching side flaps to the strip that passes from back to front, or by weaving a piece of the shape shown in Fig. 6 so that, when the edges 6b, 7<c> are secured together, it will form the desired hood cover. A number of such pieces may be woven in one length, as shown in Fig. 7, having alternately wide sections 70 and narrow sections 60, the intervening spaces being taken up by warp threads w floated between the widened portions. The long strip is then cut across as at x-x and the threads w cut away, whereby the pieces of the required shape are produced.. The widened portions may be woven in the flat state, as shown, or by a known method as shown in Fig. 8, with the wing portions w folded inwards, so as to take up less width in the loom. The invention is not limited to the forms of cover described, so long as the woven cover is of such a shape as to enclose completely the top, front, and sides of the pocket-like hood.
