Abstract

1,085,889. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. HUYCK CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1965 [Oct. 14, 1964], No. 40259/65. Heading B5K. A papermakers' drier felt 10 comprises a fabric the ends of which are seamed together and apertures 42, 44, 46 are provided in the seam to divide it into segments 12, 14, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the end portions 16, 18 of the belt are folded back upon themselves and held in place by stitching 20, 22. Interleaving clipper hooks 24, 26 are secured to the seam segments and a segmented cable 28 in the form of a series of flexible spaced-apart axially aligned rods or pins passes therethrough. The apertures 42, 44, 46 extend completely through the portions 16, 18 and are preferably diamond shaped but may be rectangular. In a further embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3 (both not shown), the end portions 58, 60 of the belt 50 are overlapped and joined by stitching 62, 64 optionally with the addition of adhesive, rivets, staples or lacing. Seam segments 52, 54, 56 are separated from one another by apertures 66, 68. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), staggered seam segments 72, 74, 76, 78, 80, 82 are formed by folding back the end portions of the belt and securing by stitching 88, 90. Staggered slots 92, 94, 96, 98 are formed between the segments. One continuous cable 104 extends through clipper hooks 100, 102 secured to the segments. In a still further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the seam is similar to that of Fig. 1 but a flap in the form of a cover tape 110 stitched at 112 to the segments 14, 30, 34, 38 is provided to cover the hooks 24, 26.
