Abstract

1,065,843. Transformers. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Dec. 10, 1963 [Dec. 10, 1962], No. 48714/63. Heading HIT. A method of producing an insulating angle ring (for H.V. transformers) includes wrapping one or more insulating annular discs 27, 28 with a plurality of layers of insulating tape 32 (stuck together and/or to at least one annular disc) and then cutting the wrapping around the inner or the outer circumference 33 of the disc, the strips of tape so released being erected by withdrawing one disc 27 in the axial direction and being then supported by introducing insulating cylindrical sleeve(s). 35, Fig. 3, substantially perpendicular to the plane of the disc. A wrapping 34 may hold the tapes against the sleeve 35, and tape 36, 37 may be used to retain the outer edges, while extra annular discs 29, 30 may be included to maintain an equal overall flange thickness, allowing for the build-up of tape 32 at the inner circumference of discs 27, 28. Modifications include the provision of further annular discs and cylinders to reinforce the flanges and the tubular portions respectively (Figs. 4, 5, 6, 8, not shown), the discs and cylinders being secured by a loose outer wrapping of tape (51, Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The size of the flange may be increased by additional extension rings (70, Fig. 6, not shown), or by wrapping the tape (81, Fig. 8, not shown) about two concentric annuli (78, 79) of different radial dimensions, the flange portion (78) being larger than the portion (79) which becomes the tubular part of the angle ring (83). The resilience of the tape 32, Figs. 2, 3, allows variations in coil dimensions to be accommodated, as also do slits (76, 77, Fig. 7, not shown), in the reinforcing cylinders, and a non-adhering overlapping joint (102, 105, Fig. 10, not shown) in the tape wrapped around the discs (97, 98).
