Abstract

1288219 Winding webs E D WARBURTON & CO Ltd 7 May 1971 [6 March 1970] 10819/70 Heading B8R A reel bar for supporting a plurality of tubular cores 7, 8, 9 on which webs are to be wound comprises a steel bar 1; spacing rings 10, 11 provided with tongues 12 for transmitting drive to the cores; locknuts 26, 27 which are capable of passing through the cores and which screw on to the ends 2, 3 of the bar 1; and locking rings 18, 22 for transmitting pressure from the locknuts to the ends of the cores for clamping them together, the ring 18 having a drive-transmitting lug 19 and being formed with an opening 21 so as to be removable in a radial direction. A fixed housing 6 and a removable housing 5, which fits over a sleeve 4, are provided at the ends of the bar 1 for mounting the reel bar in a machine. The lug 19 on the ring 18 co-operates with a keyway 20 in the bar 1 and with a collar 14 having a lug 15 which transmits the drive to the core 7. Rubber 0-rings or split collets can replace the spacing rings 10, 11, the former being used when the cores have metal end caps and the latter when the cores are of uncapped strawboard (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).
