Abstract

963,749. Spooling wire. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. June 6, 1961 [March 14, 1961], No. 20408/61. Heading D1J. The invention relates to continuous wire spooling machines of the kind comprising two axially aligned spool shafts 12, 14, Fig. 1, separately driven such that when one spool S1 is filled the take-up speed of the core of the other spool S2 is made equal to that of the wire being wound on to the filled spool S1. According to the invention coil supporting assemblies 22, 26, 28 and 122, 126, 128 are detachably secured to the opposed ends of the shafts 12, 14 respectively, each assembly including a ring 28 (128) having substantially the same external diameter as the cores of the spools to be used therewith and on to which the initial end of the wire is first wound as a tail winding before being wound on a spool, there being a plurality of individual curved radially extending arms 42 (142) mounted on each of said assemblies, each of said arms including a guiding edge 42a Fig. 2 extending from said ring to the outermost portion of said arm for guiding the wire on to said rings respectively. In operation, when the spool S1, for example, is full the wire is first transferred to the ring 128 associated with the spool S2 in order that an initial tail winding can be formed on the ring 128 and the wire is then transferred to the spool S2. Since the diameter of the ring 128 is the same diameter as the core of the spool S2 the wire is not, during transfer, subjected to any stresses that are sufficient to cause a reduction in its diameter. Each shaft has threaded therein a nut 34 carrying a disc 30 from which the curved arms 42 (142) extend. To remove a filled spool from its shaft the nut 34 is unscrewed and the supporting assemblies 22, 26, 28 removed. When the nut 34 is screwed into position projecting lugs 12a on the shaft 12 extend into corresponding openings 44 in the disc 30 on the nut 34 so that the shaft 12 can drive the disc 30. Specification 691,991 is referred to.
