Abstract
1,153,948. Reels; continuous winding up of wire. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. 19 July, 1967 [3 Aug., 1966], No. 33133/67. Heading B8M. [Also in Division D1] A continuous wire spooling device includes a spool 11 having a barrel 21 and at least one end flange 22, the flange having a pin 18 projecting therefrom and a groove 23 extending from the pin along a chord tangential to the barrel, the groove being in the face of the flange adjacent the barrel. The groove is preferably semicircular in cross-section. The flange 22 may include an auxiliary flange 17 and the pin 18 may be positioned on the auxiliary flange. The spooling device also includes two independently driven variable speed shafts 12, 13 in axial alignment, each receiving a main wire spool 10, 11, a wire distributor 14 being provided to guide wire on to the spools and to carry wire from a full spool to an empty one. During winding of the spools, as one spool becomes full, the wire distributor is caused to shift rapidly to the adjacent spool and thereafter resume its slow traverse, the wire end being forced into the groove in the spool flange. As the wire transfers from the full spool to an empty one, it encounters a snagger plate 15 and wire cutter 19.
