Abstract

1,065,264. Direct injection engines. F.A. BIANCHI. May 15, 1964, No.20467/64. Heading F1B. A charge of compressed fuel-free air is discharged from reservoir 22 through port 24 into the cylinder, the discharge commencing before the exhaust port 14 in the head is completely closed and continuing after it is completely closed, and fuel is then injected into the cylinder. The air is maintained at constant pressure in reservoir 22 by a compressor 30 and the port 24 is controlled by a slide valve 26 operated by solenoids 27, 28 or cams. The reservoir 22 may be heated by coil 29, and the cylinder charge is ignited by a spark plug 18 or hot wire.
