Abstract

1,065,244. Detonators. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Nov. 29, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 47338/63. Heading F3A. A primer has a booster charge comprising oxidizing and reducing agents and ignited by a primary charge containing an igniting composition as well as oxidizing and reducing agents. A primer comprises a sleeve (1), a threaded cap (2) and base plate (3) with a recess (4) clamped to the sleeve by the cap. A booster charge (8) consisting of barium nitrate, lead dioxide and calcium silicide with no igniting agent and compressed up to 10<SP>3</SP> kg/cm<SP>2</SP> is pressed into a widened bore (9) of the sleeve 1 and held by a cover-plate (10), the widened bore tapering into a duct (18) with a taper angle of between 30 and 60 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. A cup 5 is fitted into the recess (4) and holds an anvil (7) with flash passages (7a) together with a compressed priming charge (6) which consists of approximately the same mixture as the booster charge (8) together with tetrazene and tricinate as igniters and has a mass of between the same as and <SP>1</SP>/ 500 th of the booster charge. The lead dioxide in the booster charge may be replaced by copper oxide and the calcium silicide by silicon; basic lead nitrate may be used and zirconium or boron may replace the aluminium or silicon. An electrically-operated detonator is described as an embodiment in which a primary charge and a booster charge are pressed into contact with each other. Another embodiment shows an electrically-operated primer.
