Abstract

A composition curable to a rubber on exposure to moisture comprises (A) a liquid organopolysiloxane having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of from 200 to 500,000 cs. and containing from 0.02 to 2% of Si-bonded -OH groups, (B) a silane of the formula R1Si(OAc)3, (C) a silane of the formula (RO)2Si(OAc)2, and, if desired, a filler, where R is a lower alkyl radical, R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon (h.c.), halo-h.c. or cyanoalkyl radical, and Ac is a saturated monovalent monoacyl radical of a carboxylic acid. In general there are used from 1.8 to 6.0 parts (by wt.) of (B) and from 0.2 to 6 parts of (C) per 100 parts of (A); and from 5 to 70% (by wt.) of the total silane content is constituted by (C). Metal carboxylate cure accelerators and fillers (inorganic and organic), numerous examples of which are given, flame retardants, e.g. Sb2O5, chlorinated h.c.'s and organic sulphonates, and plasticizers, may also be added. Moisture should be excluded during the mixing of the components. Examples are given of the above and control compositions. Uses: for various caulking applications.
