Abstract

1,064,445. Treating filamentary tows. KURASHIKI RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14665/64. Heading D1F. A device for opening continuous crimped tow for use as cigarette filters comprises two endless belts face to face with a plurality of needles on the facing surfaces. The tow 13 is pulled by rollers 14, 15 between endless belts 1, 2 with needles on the surface. The belts pass round adjustable rollers 7, 8 tensioning rollers 9, 10, rollers 3, 4 and 5, 6 and are driven by gear wheels 19, 20 at different speeds by a geneva mechanism of which the join wheel 12 alternately drives a pair of gear wheels 11 meshing with gear wheels 19, 20. The rollers 7 and 8 are adjustably spaced apart to allow the tow to spread and the rollers 3, 4 and 5, 6 are adjusted according to the thickness of the filament tow.
