Abstract

1,063,685. Packages. OSCAR MAYER & CO. Inc. July 16, 1965, No. 30262/65. Heading B8C. A package 10 comprises a rigid base member 11 on which the contents 12 are centrally supported, and a flexible film 13 covering the contents, and sealed to a rim 15 and flange 16 on the base member. The film is preferably of polyvinylidene chloride, and the base member of a suitable plastics material, to which the film adheres naturally when it is drawn tightly over the contents, e.g. by vacuum. As shown, the package is circular and the film is sealed by adhesive 18 to the flange 16. The package is opened by cutting the film between the contents and the rim 15. Alternatively, the package is rectangular, Figs. 4-6, and the flange (16) extended to form a horizontal lip, on to which the film is sealed. On one side, the lip and film are extended horizontally, and a label is applied to the film, the additional thickness facilitating the separation of film and lip to render the package openable and resealable. The label, film, and lip carry aligned apertures (30) to allow the package to be hung up.
