Abstract

1,063,514. Extruding. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. July 31, 1964 [July 31, 1963], No. 30380/63. Heading B3P. [Also in Division B7] For transporting a hot billet 10 between a furnace and an extrusion press, a conveyer comprises two hydraulic or pneumatic rams 11, 12, Fig. 1, at the ends of a track 2 to project a trolley 1 along the track and to each act as a buffer to arrest the trolley when it has been projected by the other ram. The trolley cradle 8 is pivoted at 31, Fig. 4, and is tipped by rams 32 at the trackside to discharge a billet 10 on to a table 33. Ram 12 has a head 39 on tracks 23 between tracks 2 whilst the head 28 of ram 11 runs on tracks 2. One or more intermediate rams 13 serving other furnace doors each comprise a head 40 pivoted at 14 and projectable into the path of a trolley, to stop or propel it, by fluid pressure through pipe 15, the head 40 running on tracks 20 between track 2 as shown, a ram 13 is operated by a fluid pressure cylinder 16 mounted on brackets 18 and is connected by rod 17 to ram 11 whereby both rams are actuated simultaneously whilst ram 12 is actuated directly by cylinder 21. A spigot 29, Fig. 2, on each ram engages a cup 27 on trolley 1 and spring biased members 29 engage an annular recess 30 to hold and locate the trolley on the ram head; this coupling is automatically disengaged when the trolley is projected by a ram. The tracks 2, Fig. 4, on which flangeless wheels 6 run, are flanked by channel section guides 4 to guide trolley 1, balls 7 on the wheel-axle ends engaging the guides 4. The fluid pressure cylinders 16, 21 are controlled by solenoid and fluid pressure actuated valves, and track switches operated by the trolley, Fig. 5 (not shown). The conveyer may only have the rams 11, 12 which then are both actuated by associated cylinders similar to 21.
