Abstract

Compounds of Formula (IV) <FORM:1063086/C3/1> wherein R4, R5 and R6 are each an organic group joined to the ring by a carbon atom, or R4 and R5 together represent a polymethylene group, are prepared by heating compounds of Formula (I) R6NH-SiR4R5-NHR6, (II) XR5R4Si-NR6-SiR4R5R9 or <FORM:1063086/C3/2> wherein R9 and R10 are each organic groups uinted to the silicon atom through a carbon atom, and X is a halogen atom. Novel compounds (IV) are those wherein R4, R5 are each hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy hydrocarbon groups or, together, a polymethylene group, and R13 is a hydrocarbon group optionally substituted by one or more halogen, nitro, cyano, acyl, ether, ester, hydrocarbonoxy, ammo, or organosilyl groups. In embodiments the (I) may be formed by reacting R6NH2 with a tri-or tetra-silazane, or with X2SiR4R5 where X is a halogen atom, and the product may be heated to form the cyclic silazane without isolation. Amine (II) may be prepared by reacting an organic silicon dihalide with the alkali-metal or Grignard derivative of the reaction product of R6NH2 and an organic monohalosilane. Amine (III) may be prepared forming a diorganometallic of amine (I) and reacting this with R4R5R10SiX. Cyclic silazanes (IV) containing unsaturated groups may be polymerized; no examples are given.
