B. Chlor-, Brom-, Fluoraniline), Nitrogruppen (z. B. Nitroaniline), Cyangruppen (z. B. Aminobenzonitrile), Carbonylgruppen (z. B.
Aminobenzophenone), Äthergruppen (z. B. Anisidin), Estergruppen (z. B. Aminocarbonsäureester, Aminosulfonsäureester), Aminogruppen (z. B. N,N-Dialkyl-dia- minoalkane, N-Phenyl-diaminobenzole) etc. enthalten.

Process for the production of high-temperature resistant cyclodisilazanes
The present invention relates to a process for the production of high-temperature-resistant cyclodisilazanes.
The new cyclodisilazanes have the general formula
EMI1.1
in which Rt and R2 are identical or different, optionally substituted hydrocarbon radicals or together with the silicon form a cyclic radical, and R3 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical or heterocyclic radical, either the radical R3 or one of the radicals R1 and R2 containing at least 2 carbon atoms .
These compounds are obtained by adding certain silazanes, which are generally represented by the formula
EMI1.2
are expressed. The symbols Y and Z represent residues or atoms which are split off during the reaction with the formation of a by-product YZ.
The formation of the cyclosilazanes probably proceeds via an unstable, intermediate silylimide, which immediately dimerizes to the stable four-membered ring. In principle, this reaction can be schematized as follows:
EMI1.3
All starting materials (I) which can be used for the practice of the invention have the same characteristic that they contain a radical Z which can be split off by the reaction and which leaves together with a further splittable radical Y during the reaction.
The prerequisite for the formation of a cyclodisilazane is, however, that at least one of the organic radicals R1, R2 and R3, which are retained in the end product, has a certain bulkiness, otherwise only the known, thermally less resistant six-membered rings, i.e. H. Cyclotrisilazane, or figure eight rings, d. H.
Cyclotetrasilazane, or polymers are formed.
These steric conditions necessary for the formation of a cyclodisilazane are fulfilled if at least one of the radicals R1, R2 and R3 on the nitrogen or silicon atom contains at least 2 carbon atoms, i.e. H. if z. B. an ethyl radical is present.
For the present process, for. B. the starting compounds described below can be used. Simple diaminesilanes are preferred which obey the general formula (Ia) RSNH-Si (RIR2) -NR4RS. In this formula, the radicals R3, R2 and R3 again have the previous meaning, R4 and R5 are in principle defined the same as R3 and R5 is, as an alternative, also a hydrogen atom. The organic radicals R4 and R5 taken together can form a heterocyclic radical.
Although there is a considerable choice for the radicals R4 and R5, because these are radicals of any primary or secondary amines together with the nitrogen atoms, very specific radicals are selected and preferred for reasons of expediency, as shown in detail below will be.
The simplest diaminosilanes that can be used here are the symmetrical diaminosilanes, as they are in a simple manner, for. B. from a diorganosilicon dihalide and a primary amine in the presence of an acid-binding agent at room temperature or slightly elevated temperature can be produced practically quantitatively:
EMI2.1
In general, to prepare a preferred class of starting compounds, this reaction is carried out in the presence of an excess amount of the amine to be reacted. Some symmetrical N-monosubstituted bis (amino) diorganosilanes have been described in the specialist literature.
For example, compounds are known whose residues on the silicon are methyl, ethyl, benzyl, phenyl or l-naphthyl groups and methylamino, ethylamino, propylamino, hexylamino, benzylamino and anilino groups, such as. B. in the compounds bis (methyl amino) diethylsilane, bis (methylamino) diphenylsilane, bis (ethylamino) dimethylsilane, bis (anilino) diethylsilane, bis (hexylamino) diphenylsilane and bis (benzylamino ) -dibenzylsil.
Other analogs can be made in exactly the same way. In the preparation of these starting compounds (Ia), however, more complex organic dichlorosilanes can also be used instead of the simple diorganosilicon dichlorides listed in equation (2) above; those whose two organic radicals located on the silicon together form a cyclic structure, such as. B. the cyclotetramethylene dichlorosilane.
It has been found that when such starting materials (la) are heated, one of the two amino groups is split off. The reaction proceeds, for example with bis (methylamino) diphenylsilane, according to the following equation:
EMI2.2
In order for the formation of the cyclodisilazane to take place at a reasonable rate, a higher reaction temperature is necessary in this case. The appropriate reaction temperature is generally at or above the boiling point of the diaminosilane used and is at least about 200. The upper temperature limit is determined by the decomposition temperature of the cyclodisilazanes to be obtained.
The decomposition temperature is relatively high in most cases and is consistently around 430-480 C.
The amine split off must expediently be removed from the reaction mixture. The easiest way to do this is by continuous distillation or sublimation, possibly under reduced pressure. Other known methods for removing or inactivating the split off amine are of course not excluded. The amine can, however, also be converted into diaminosilane by reaction with further diorgano- or cycloorganodichlorosilane originally used and then again subjected to the reaction according to the invention.
It has been found that the mixture obtained in the preparation of the starting materials (la) from organic silicon dichlorides and primary amines can be subjected directly to the reaction according to the invention. In addition to the diaminosilane, this mixture contains z. B. a double equimolar amount of amine chlorohydrate, which does not prevent the success of the reaction. For this reason it has been found possible to manufacture the starting products, i.e. H. the diaminosilanes (la) and the end products, d. H. of the cyclodisilazanes, to be carried out in a single approach.
First of all, the organic silicon dichloride is converted into the corresponding diaminosilane by adding at least four times the equimolar amount of the primary amine and heated to the necessary reaction temperature, whereupon, optionally after the excess amine has been distilled off, cyclization occurs with elimination of the amine. A mixture is obtained which consists of the desired cyclodisilazane and the aminochlorohydrate formed in addition in a molar proportion of 1: 4. Because the cyclodisilazanes are insoluble in water, the amine chlorohydrate can be separated off by dissolving in water and recovered in a known manner after adding alkali.
The preparation of the cyclodisilazanes is also possible by a continuous method, in that the reaction components are driven in an appropriate proportion through an apparatus heated to the most favorable reaction temperature. the reaction products can be separated by distillation, sublimation and / or by a mechanical process such as filtration, centrifugation, etc.
Another known method for obtaining organic diaminosilanes of the general formula (Ia) is based on the reaction of cyclotrisilazanes or cyclotetrasilazanes obtainable from organic silicon dichlorides and ammonia with a primary amine in a molar proportion of at least 1: 6 or 1: 8, with excess amine or by means of transamination catalysts (e.g.
Amines or ammonium salts of strong inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid, hydrogen bromide, sulfuric acid or a strong organic acid such as trifluoroacetic acid etc.) this intermediate reaction can be accelerated. Thus the preparation of the di amunosilanes by the method just mentioned and their conversion into cyclodisilazanes can be carried out in a single batch. It has been found that the reaction proceeds faster if electron donating groups on the silicon, such as e.g. B. alkyls are present because they cause the Si-N bond to loosen.
However, the process according to the invention can also be used to produce cyclodisilazanes which contain the residues of a non-volatile or non-volatile amine as a component. For this purpose, unsymmetrical diaminosilanes are used, which contain a residue of a volatile amine and a non-volatile or non-volatile amine bonded to silicon. These starting compounds can be prepared either by the step-by-step reaction of an organic dichlorosilane with two different amines, or by transaminating a symmetrical diaminosilane in a manner likewise known per se.
In the first method, a sterically hindered amine (tertiary butylamine, alpha-naphthylamine) or a weakly basic amine (aniline, aminobiphenyl, aminonaphthalene) is expediently used in the first stage and then the highly volatile and usually strongly basic amine in the second stage (Methylamine, ethylamine, propylamine) introduced. Since only one of the two amino groups in the starting product (la) has to have a secondary character, namely that which becomes part of the end product, volatile secondary amines (dimethylamine, diethylamine, etc., which are then split off) can also be used in this case.
In the second method, diaminosilanes based on highly volatile amines are subjected to the transamination using a non-volatile or non-volatile amine in a molar ratio of 1: 1. Here, too, the rule applies, as always, that one of the two amino groups of the diaminosilanes (6a) used as starting material must have a secondary character, while the second group can also be tertiary. During the transamination, the known factors such as the strength of the Si-N bond, which, as already mentioned above, is influenced by the substituents on the silicon, as well as steric conditions must be given due consideration.
Because, for example, the transamination with α-naphthylamine is extremely slow compared to the β-analogue, the method mentioned first will be used for the preparation of the corresponding α-naphthylamine derivatives.
The selection of useful amines for the production of diaminosilanes and thus also of cyclodisilazanes is very large. In addition to the simple primary aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic amines, amines that have one or more substituents in their hydrocarbon radical, such as halogen (e.g. chlorine, bromine, fluoroanilines), nitro groups (e.g. E.g. nitroanilines), cyano groups (e.g. aminobenzonitriles), carbonyl groups (e.g.
Aminobenzophenones), ether groups (e.g. anisidine), ester groups (e.g. aminocarboxylic acid esters, aminosulfonic acid esters), amino groups (e.g. N, N-dialkyl-diaminoalkanes, N-phenyl-diaminobenzenes) etc. contain.
It should be pointed out that in the case of the aromatic compounds these substituents can be in the ortho, meta or para position.
Other silazanes which can be used to prepare the said cyclodisilazanes contain, according to the formation principle (1) explained at the beginning, as cleavable radicals Y and Z, organic silyl groups. These starting compounds are referred to here as disilylamines and correspond to the general formula (Ib) x (R2R3) siN (R8) Si (R1R3) x
In this formula, R2, R2 and R3 are as defined earlier and X is a halogen atom, preferably a chlorine atom, or in principle the same definition as R1 and R2, although at least one silicon-bonded, removable halogen atom must be present in the starting compound.
These compounds are obtained using in principle the same organic dichlorosilanes and primary amines as are also used for the production of starting compounds which have been previously defined. They can be made by various methods.
In one method, primary amines in the form of dialkali salts or di-Grignard derivatives are reacted with at least twice the equimolar amount of the organic dichlorosilane. Excess dichlorosilane, which can be recovered by distillation, promotes the formation of the disilylamines (ob), so that this intermediate reaction takes place at room temperature or slightly elevated temperatures. Of course, the reactivity of the organic dichlorosilanes also plays a role. Aliphatic dichlorosilanes, for example, react more easily than aromatic ones. As a rule, the preparation of the disilylamines is carried out in a solvent, because the alkali metal salts or Grignard derivatives of the amines must be prepared in such a solvent. Anhydrous hexane, benzene, toluene, xylene etc.
(for lithium salts), dioxane, dimethoxyethane, tetrahydrofuran etc.
(for Grignard derivatives) are suitable solvents or diluents for this.
The cyclization to the four-membered ring proceeds, for example, with bis (dimethylchlorosilyl) aniline according to the following equation:
EMI3.1
The appropriate reaction temperature is generally in the range between about 1000 and the boiling point of the disilylamine. The split off diorganosilicon dichloride is to be continuously removed from the reaction mixture or otherwise inactivated.
The ease with which this reaction takes place depends on the one hand on the strength of the Si-N bond and on the other hand also on the Si-Cl bond. The reaction is particularly easy in cases where the substituents on silicon are aliphatic radicals (besides chlorine) and aromatic radicals on nitrogen.
In another method of preparing disilylamines (Ib), a primary amine is reacted with an organic monochlorosilane, with excess amine being useful as an acidic binding agent.
The alkali salt or Grignard derivative is then produced from this monosilylamine and reacted with an organic silicon dichloride. The starting compounds obtained in this way are asymmetrical disilylamines corresponding to the general formula (ob) set out above, in which one of the two radicals X is an organic radical and in principle the same as Rt and R2 is defined. During the cyclization, which in principle also proceeds according to the above scheme (lb), however, the corresponding triorganosilicon chloride is split off in this case. It is advisable to remove it from the reaction mixture or to inactivate it in some other way.
Corresponding primary amines can be used to prepare starting compounds (lb) and thus cyclodisilazanes according to equation (lb), provided that both of their hydrogen atoms on the nitrogen can be replaced by an alkali metal or by a Grignard radical and otherwise no others can be replaced by the same procedure Atoms (e.g. active hydrogen, halogen) or cleavable groups (e.g. ester groups) are present at the same time.
In this embodiment of the reaction according to the invention, too, the preparation of the starting compounds, d. H. the symmetrical and asymmetrical disilylamines (ob), and the end products, d. H. the cyclodisilazanes, expediently carried out in a single batch, because the alkali salts or magnesium salts formed in the process do not interfere with the reaction and can easily be separated from the end products.
Other silazanes which can be used to produce the said cyclodisilazanes contain, according to the formation principle (1) explained at the beginning according to equation (1c), an organic silyl group as the cleavable radical Y and an organic aminosilane group bonded via its nitrogen as the cleavable radical Z. They can be formulated as follows: (Ic) X (R2Ri) SiN (R5) Si (R1R2) N (R3) Si (RsR2) X
In this formula, R1, R2 and R3 are as defined earlier and X is a halogen atom, preferably a chlorine atom, or defined identically to Rt and R2.
The cyclization to the four-membered ring proceeds, for example, with bis (trimethylsilylanilino) dimethylsilane according to the following equation:
EMI4.1
For the preparation of the starting compounds (1c), which contain no halogen bonded to silicon, the same diaminosilanes (la) as are also used in the embodiment described first (la) are converted into the corresponding dialkali salts or in a manner known per se Di-Grignard derivatives converted and reacted with an at least equimolar amount of an organic silicon chloride. The formation of the cyclosilazane with elimination of disilylamine according to equation (1c) proceeds extremely easily and can occasionally be observed even at room temperature.
If the reaction (lc) via the corresponding, halogen (chlorine) -containing analogs, such as. B. bis (dimethyl-chlorosilylaniline) -dimethylsilane, which usually only find inconsistent intermediates, the corresponding halogen-containing disilylamines (ob), such as bis (dimethylchlorosilyl) aniline, are formed as cleavage products.
It has already been mentioned in the description of the starting compounds (lb) that such disilylamines which contain halogen bonded to silicon, likewise convert into cyclodisilazanes on heating (equation lb). After it was established that on the one hand half of the organic silicon dichloride originally used is split off again (and should of course be used) and on the other hand the alkali or magnesium salts occurring as by-products do not interfere with the reaction, a simpler process was worked out, which consists of a diaminosilane (la) in the form of a Di-Grignard derivative or dialkali salt, preferably dilithium salt, with a diorgano- or cycloorganosilicon dichloride,
in a molar proportion of 1: 1, as long as to heat to the most favorable reaction temperature until the precipitation of the incidentally formed salts completely, d. H. the reaction has ended. As in the previous embodiment according to equation (lb), a solvent is generally used, since the metal derivatives of the diaminosilanes must be prepared in such a solvent. The necessary reaction temperature is between about 70 "and 1500 when working in a heterogeneous system. If the metal derivatives are dissolved and the silicon halides are sufficiently reactive, the reaction can take place at room temperature.
The aliphatically substituted cyclodisilazanes can often be distilled.
The products of the process are liquid or solid, depending on the organic groups present. They can be used as heat-transferring liquids at high temperatures, lubricants for machine parts subject to extreme thermal stress, hydraulic oils, textile auxiliaries, antifoam agents, antioxidants, stabilizers, vulcanization accelerators, plasticizers, water repellants, neutron absorbers and more.
EXAMPLE 1 Bis (anilino) dimethyl silane is kept at the temperature given in the table below in a vessel equipped with a thermometer immersed in the reaction mixture, the aniline formed during the reaction being continuously distilled off through a distillation head. After the specified times, the reaction mixture is cooled, an excess of hexane is added, the precipitated cyclodisilizane of the formula [C6H5N Si (CH5) 2] 2 is filtered off and dried in vacuo (0.1 mm) at 70 "for 3 hours Determination of the amount of aniline split off.
