Abstract

1,063,016. Determining the dissolved gas content on a liquid electrically. HONEYWELL Inc. March 18, 1964 [March 27, 1963J, No. 11448/64. Headine G1N. An apparatus for the determination of dissolved gas content in a liquid comprises a polarographic cell 1 (Fig. 1) having a selectively permeable membrane 2, covering an opening in one end of the cell, to separate a pair of internal electrodes immersed in an electrolyte contained within the cell, from a liquid 10 under test in a tank 3; and a pump 7 which pumps the liquid through pipes 6, 5 so that the liquid is directed against the membrane to continuously clean the surface thereof. The pump has two inlets 9, 11 whereby the liquid in the tank can be recirculated or fresh liquid continuously added, an overflow outlet 4 being provided. In an alternative arrangement Fig. 2 (not shown), the membrane is in the form of a hollow tube (16), and the bottom of a cell (15) comprises a hollow cup-shaped member (17) having axially aligned holes (18), (19) through which the tube (16) passes. A centre post 20 supports a first electrode (21) in contact with the membrane surface, and carries a second electrode (22). The cell contains an electrolyte e. g. potassium hydroxide solution to provide reduction of a dissolved reducible gas passed by the membrane tube (16). A pump (27) pumps the test fluid and the flow through the tube (16) is effective to continuously clean the surface thereof.
