As shown the cell R6 with a gas-permeable membrane 9 is mounted in a gas-pipe-section 20, 21 with tubes 13 connecting to a syringe 14 and a reservoir containing an ion exchanger for washing and regenerating the desalted water. The cell is connected in a mains energized bridge circuit with a parallel switch test resistor R7.
