Abstract
Improvements introduced in Respirometers for the rapid control of biodegradable organic pollution in a liquid medium through the instant knowledge of oxygen consumption, characterized by that they include: - a tank containing the contaminated liquid and microorganisms, said tank being provided with an oxygenation medium, - a measuring room intended to receive the samples in question to be analyzed, and connected to the tank by a transfer means, - a single electrode that penetrates the enclosure and that detects the electrical variations in the medium due to the reduction in the concentration of dissolved oxygen, - a timing element that cooperates with said transfer means to determine the period during which each sample in contact with the electrode must be deprived of any contribution of external oxygen, - an analyzer and transducer device connected to the electrode to transform the signals supplied by the latter into interpretable graphic elements that indicate the variation of the instantaneous oxygen consumption.
