Abstract

A method of producing an internally mechanically reinforced yarn which comprises passing separately at least two twistless or substantially twistless fibre slivers from a drafting mechanism and then twisting them together to form a single yarn, is characterised by the twisting point being allowed freely to occupy the position at which the forces and moments caused in the yarn and in the slivers by the twisting are evenly balanced, and by the distance between the last pressing line in the drafting mechanism and the twisting point being shorter than the largest fibre length. Preferably this distance is not smaller than the average fibre length. The slivers are spaced apart downstream of the drafting mechanism by a prismatic guiding element with smooth edges, and preferably of a triangular cross-section.
