Abstract

To prevent opening during high speed centrifuging the door of a washer-extractor cylinder is arranged so that the end of the door furthest from the hinge extends inside the rotary cylinder. To open the door it is moved longitudinally relatively to the axis of the cylinder and relatively to its hinge (21) against compression springs (26) (Fig. 5) (not shown) until the end (14b) is clear of the cylinder parts (18, 20) (Fig. 6) (not shown) and then rotated about the hinge (21). The relative motion for unlocking is produced by the anti-clockwise rotation of a bar (32) pivotally mounted on an extension (30) of the hinge (Fig. 2) (not shown), a slot (32a) in this bar acting on a stud (33) fixed to the door.
