Abstract

The invention comprises basic anthraquinone dyes free from SO3H and COOH groups, which contain an N,N-dimethylhydrazinium group linked to the dye by a methylene radical and which are further defined by reference to 13 formulae. They are prepared by reacting an anthraquinone dye containing the acid radical of an ester grouping linked via -CH2- (e.g. chloromethyl) with N,N-dimethylhydrazine. The dyes are preferably used to colour polyacrylonitrile, polyester and modified polyolefin fibres in red and blue shades.
