Abstract

1,061,347. Clutch control. ALLIANCE MACHINE CO. July 29, 1965 [Aug. 13, 1964], No. 32550/65. Heading F2L. [Also in Division F4] A clutch 45 arranged at each end of a driveshaft 42, of a tiltable furnace charger (see Division F4), is axially, slidably mounted thereon by means of a keyway 46 and key 39 and has a ratchet toothed face 47 for engagement with a pinion gear 48. The two clutches are interconnected by a yoke 90 attached to a rotatable collar 49, and are spaced whereby only one clutch can be engaged at any one time and both clutches can be disengaged at the same time. The yoke 90 comprises a tube 60 attached to the collars 49 by a forked element 58, within said tube 60 is a support rod 62 suitably bushed at each end 63 and having secured thereto a collar 64 to contain a spring 65 at each end, said spring 65 permitting an engaged clutch to slip by virtue of the ratchet teeth 47 should the need arise and also urging the engaging teeth 37, 47 together. The yoke 90 is moved from engagement of one clutch, to total disengagement, to engagement of the other clutch by means of an electric motor 68 moving a projecting arm 66.
