Abstract

1,060,759. Obtaining fibres from coconuts. O. ANGLEITNER. June 8, 1964 [Dec. 30, 1963], No. 23657/64. Heading DIN. Fibres are extracted from water-soaked shells by passing pieces of the shells between squeeze rolls and immediately thereafter transferring the shell pieces to an endless element, such as a chain, running against the periphery of a disc so that portions of the pieces are gripped and conveyed while other portions are combed by a hackling drum. From the first chain and disc conveyor the pieces are passed to a second for the hackling of those portions formerly gripped. Shell pieces are fed to squeeze rolls 5, 6 between V-belts 1, 2, 3 received in grooves in the squeeze rolls. Following the squeeze rolls are a pulley 11 over which the chain 10 passes and an auxiliary roller 16 that aids in the transfer of shell pieces to the chain between which and the disc 14 they are gripped whilst being combed by the hackling drum 15. The chain 10 passes over a pulley 12 fixed on the same shaft as a pulley 21 associated with a chain 18. Because of the overlap of the chains the shell pieces are automatically transferred in order to be combed from both ends. The chains are tensioned by pulleys 13, 23.
