A ship's gantry crane, which runs on rails on either side of the hatches and has a crab running on a beam which can be extended on swinging cantilevers over the ship's side, is remotely controlled by a portable control panel on a wandering lead which can be plugged into sockets on both the port and starboard sides of each hatch.
