Limbs, artificial.-An artificial arm having articulated fingers flexed by a cable or equivalent means tensioned bv the wearer has a device by which the fingers are closed and held locked by cne actuation of the tensioning means and are released and opened by the next. The tensioning means, such as a cable 10, is carried by a spring- pressed drum 2, and flexing cables 13, 14 are carried by a similar coaxial drum 3, both drums being urged by their spring against a stop 9. The drum 2 carries a pawl 15 which is movable in two directions at right-angles and which, on movement of the drum 2, engages a depression 20 upon a cam-member carried by the drum 3 and drives it to close the hand, the latter drum being held in moved position by a pawl 17 and the drum 2 returning under spring action. The next actuation of the cable 10 causes the drum 2 to release the pawl 17 and the two drums are then returned by the springs and the hand opens. Specifications 103.759 and 104,954 are referred to.
