Dec. 5, 1916 Limbs, artificial.-A hand comprises a fixed finger 14 secured out of centre upon a post 11 which is angularly adjustable on the stump socket 1 by means of a crown wheel 9 locked by a spring-pressed dog 10. A block 12 of india-rubber or equivalent material is secured at the end of the post. A movable finger 15 is pivoted to the fixed finger and closed by a spring-ring 18; it is opened by a bell-crank lever 19 operated by a cord 24 which is secured to the shoulder and passes through a link 30 secured to the upper portion of the stump socket. The lever 19 bears against the finger 15 by a pin 21 and a maximum opening moment is exerted at the beginning of the movement. The finger 15 has a recess 17 to accommodate a pencil P which also passes through a loop 31 on the finger.
