Abstract

1,059,325. Universal joints. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. Dec. 10, 1963 [Oct. 24. 1962], No. 40333/62. Heading F2U. A constant velocity ratio universal joint, for angular deflections up to 60 degrees, comprises interengaging yokes 13, 23, the former 13 of which carries clamped by screws between its faces, a spherical or part-spherical coupling member 14 formed with tracks 16 containing balls 17 which are retained by a surrounding cage 18 and also engage tracks 24 formed in the yoke 23, the inside surface of which is spherically formed, the centre of curvature thereof and that of the surface of the member 14 being coincident and the tracks 16, 24 arranged to maintain the balls 17 in the bisector plane. Flats 19 are provided on the end faces of the coupling member 14 to permit assembly with the cage 18. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the yoke (13) is formed to provide clearance over the other interengaging yoke which is constructed in a ring-like form.
