Abstract

1,059,304. Lubricating. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 30. 1965 [Jan. 25, 1965]. No. 3173/65. Heading F2A. In a lubricating system for use in, or in conjunction with, a rotary machine, a first lubricating pump 2 and an emergency pump 14 are submerged in a tank 6 containing lubricant 4 therein. The first pump 2 is driven by an electric motor 8 and supplies lubricant to the required lubrication-points of a turbine 7, via a pipe 12, having a non-return valve 10 therein. The emergency pump 14, having a waterturbine 18 connected thereto, is driven by water supplied from a tank 22, via a pipe 20 and a valve 24. The latter is actuated by an actuator 26 which is responsive to the lubricant delivery pressure in the pipe 12 and is connected to the latter by a pipe 13 so that, upon failure of the pump 2, the water from the tank 22 rotates the water-turbine 18 to drive the pump 14 and force lubricant, through a non-return valve 16 and the pipe 12, to the turbine 7. The water, having driven the water-turbine 18, passes to a collecting tank 15, via a pipe 17. Steam, instead of water, may be used to drive the water-turbine 18.
