Abstract

1332553 Hydraulic reciprocating pumps and motors SUNDSTRAND CORP 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970] 25148/71 Heading F1A [Also in Division H2] An emergency power unit comprises an hydraulic unit 14 and an electric unit 12 coupled together by a shaft 34, the hydraulic unit being operable as a motor to drive the electrical unit as a generator and the electric unit being operable as a motor to drive the hydraulic unit as a pump. Thus the power unit can be switched in an emergency to deliver hydraulic or electric power to either the main hydraulic system 44 or the main electric system (not shown) of e. g. an aircraft. The hydraulic unit 14 is an axial piston machine having a swash plate 38 adjustable against a spring bias 40 by a cylinder 29. The swash plate angle is automatically adjustable under the control of a speed governor 26 or a valve 32 depending on the position of a selector valve 67. When delivering electric power the generator speed is kept constant, the governor 26 either delivering fluid to the cylinder 29 from a high pressure line 16, 60, 61 or exhausting fluid from the cylinder through a line 68, 65, 69. When delivering hydraulic power, the high pressure line 16 becomes a pump delivery line, the pressure therein being maintained constant by the valve 32 acting automatically to supply or exhaust the cylinder 29.
