Abstract

1341532 Ship propulsion T C GOTMALM 21 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 3074/72 Heading B7V A propulsion unit comprises an hydraulic motor 10 having a rotary output shaft 11 which drives a propeller-shaft 12 which is encased in casing 14. A member 16 is rigidly secured to both the motor 10 and the casing 14 and a bearing 15 for the propeller-shaft 12 is provided inside the casing 14. Fluid for the motor 10 may be supplied by an I.C. engine-driven pump via a hand-operated control valve. When installed in a metal-hulled boat (Fig. 6, not shown) the casing 14 may extend at the stern through an 0-ring seal held in a circular metal plate welded to the hull. In a wooden hull (Fig. 7, not shown) the casing may extend through an 0-ring seal held in a flanged member screwed to the hull. In a g.r.p. hull (Fig. 8, not shown) a hole is first made in the hull then the casing is inserted and fixed in position with glass fibre cloth or mat and resin.
