Abstract

[Also in Division B5] In an injection moulding, or die casting machine, any play between the prime mover and the secondary mover, which play causes loss in pressure, is overcome by a compensating device located between said movers. As shown in the Figure a press comprises co-operating dies, one mounted upon a fixed plate (1) and the other upon a carriage 9, 2, reciprocable along columns (4) attached to the fixed plate. Play compensating devices each comprising outer wedges 18, 15 and a co-operating central wedge (16) (not shown) are located between the members 9 and 2 of the movable carriage. The wedges are contained in members 18 slidable in member 2, and located between the members 18 and the rear of the front face of the member 2 are toggles 19 forming the secondary movers. In operation the carriage 9, 2 is forwarded by the prime mover (an hydraulic or pneumatic ram or an electromagnetic device) to close the dies after which the member 9 is clamped to the columns by a suitable device. The wedges are then operated so that the outer wedges bear against slide 18 and member 9 thus preventing play therebetween. The toggle mechanisms are then actuated to facilitate full closure and operating pressure. In an alternative embodiment the secondary movers may be double levers (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown).
