Abstract
1,058,196. Rotary regenerative heat exchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. April 17, 1964 [April 19, 1963], No. 15522/63. Heading F4K. A thermal regenerator of the rotary matrix or rotary duct type has a cylindrical matrix at the two ends of which are sector-shaped sealing plates in axial alignment hinged to fixed centre plates 20 and 24, being interconnected at their outer ends and counter-balanced by a weight 38, the force exerted by which tends to move the sector plates towards each other and is substantially independent of the distance between the plates. In an embodiment shown. for a regenerator having a rotary matrix in a stationary casing, the sector plates 22 and 26 are connected to a lever system 42. A rod 28 is fixed to the lower sector plate 26 and is provided with an adjustable stop 30 against which the upper sector plate 22 rests. The upper end of rod 28 is pivotally connected to lever 46 which at one end rests on a bracket 50 mounted on the casing surround rod 28. The other end of this lever is pivotally connected to another lever 34 which is connected to the regenerator casing by a link 36 and carries a counter-balance weight 38, the counterbalance force being applied about the pivot 44 and this force being just great enough to stop the plates being separated by gas pressure. However, in the case of excessive thermal axial deformation of the rotor the lever system permits the sector plates 22 and 26 to move apart against the action of the counterweight as indicated in Fig. 5. Twisting of the plates is prevented by the guide rod system, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). In other embodiments described (Figs. 8 to 12, not shown) manuallyoperated means are provided for separating the sector plates when necessary.
