Abstract

1,058,018. Measuring tension electrically. WOOL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Aug. 18, 1965 [June 10, 1964], No. 23991/64. Heading G1N. Apparatus for measuring the tension in a yarn Y (Fig. 3) comprises a cantilever beam 2 with a pulley 5 at the free end over which the yarn passes, and two semi-conductor strain gauge resistors 3, 4 bonded are on either side of the beam, and connected in a D. C. bridge circuit, whereby deflection of the beam by the yarn tension produces an unbalance in the bridge circuit which is indicative of the tension. The apparatus forms a hand-held unit, and the casing incorporates a stop determining the maximum deflection of the beam 2, and used as a calibration device.
