Abstract

1,057.999. Water supplies. W; MULLER. Oct. 22, 1965 [Oct. 24, 1964], No. 44936/65. Heading E1X. To prevent back flow in a water supply line upon a predetermined drop of pressure therein there is provided in the line a shut down valve that, under normal conditions existing in the line, is maintained open by the pressure in the line but which on a pressure drop occurring in the line is positively actuated to close the supplied system from the supplying system by venting the line on the supplying system side of the valve to atmosphere. The venting is caused by the opening of a drain spigot connected in the line, the opening being due to the pressure drop in a branch line connected to the supply line before the valve. In the branch line is a throttle a valve responsive to pressure in the branch line for venting the line to atmosphere on a pressure drop occurring in the branch line, which leads to a chamber closed by a diaphragm controlling the opening and closing of the spigot.
