Abstract

In an article of furniture a leg 1, arm or other projecting part has a stud 8 which threadedly engages a nut 9 non-rotatably engaged on a shoulder 7 formed at the junction of unequal diameter bores 5, 6 extending coaxially through a mounting block 2 secured to a wooden furniture frame, e.g. a divan base, the nut being held against movement away from the shoulder 7 by separate retaining means 10 embedded in the wall of the large bore 5. The nut 9 may, as shown, be hexagonal and' have a force fit in the larger bore portion 5. Alternatively, the nut may comprise a circular body having splines or serrations on its periphery. The nut 9 is restrained from moving longitiudinally of the bore 6 by a deformable annular member or washer 10. The undeformed washer 10 may be conical, having a maximum diameter permitting its insertion in the bore 5 to rest with its larger end on the nut 9 whereafter it is deformed by pressure to the flattened condition, as shown, to expand radially and bite into the wall of the bore 5. Alternatively, the washer may comprise a flat annular portion provided with deformable, outwardly inclined projections which bite into the bore wall.
