Abstract
1,056,134. Valves. GURTNER S.A. Feb. 11, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 5611/64. Heading F2V. A pressure reducing valve, Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 (not shown), more particularly for gases issuing from a container for liquid gas, comprises a body 1, 2, 3, an outlet 35 and a socket 7 adaptable to a connecting mouthpiece 47 (not shown in Fig. 2) connected to the source of gas and provided with a valve 48, the closure member 49 of which is permanently urged in the direction of closure, a first expansion chamber 6 comprising a passage 11 which opens into the socket 7 and into which a push-rod 21 fits with sufficient play for the passage of gas, the pushrod 21 being fixed at one end to a first flexible membrane 5 which closes the chamber 6, the length of the push-rod 21 being sufficient to enable it to lift the closure 49 from its seat when subjected to a predetermined axial thrust by the spring 25, a second expansion chamber 34, communicating with the chamber 6 through a duct 32, having a pivoted valve 40 at its outlet, the valve 40 comprising a lever 38 with a central fulcrum 39, one of the arms of the lever 38 supporting the closure member and the other arm of the lever being connected, with some lostmotion, to a second flexible membrane 36 closing the chamber 34, so that when the chamber 34 is at a predetermined pressure, adjusted by the screw 46 which alters the rate of a spring 43, the valve 40 tends to close, an operating lever 26 controls the opening and closing of the valve 49 and is mounted to rotate about the axis of the push-rod 21 and cooperates with an axially slidable supporting member 15 by means of at least one peg 28 engaging with a sloping surface 17 or 18 on the member 15, the spring 25 interposed between the supporting member 15 and the membrane forces the push-rod to open the valve 49 when the lever 26 is rotated to the extreme position shown chain-dotted in Fig. 4, and allows it to be closed by the spring 50, aided by the pushrod return spring 30, when the lever 26 is rotated to the opposite extreme position shown by full lines in Fig. 4. The valve also includes a locking ring 54 which co-operates with balls 9 in the socket 7 to retain the valve in connection with the mouthpiece 47. A spring-loaded pin 61 is also moved axially by a sloping surface 58 in the ring 54, as it is rotated, into an aperture 65 of the lever 26 to lock it in the valve closed position, and the arrangement is such that the mouthpiece 47 can only be inserted into the socket 7 in this valve closed position.
