Abstract

1,056,010. Pipe couplings. L. & L. MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 2, 1965, No. 51284/65. Heading F2G. A coupling has a tubular coupling body 10 with an outwardly flared entrance 36 around an inwardly flared nose portion 26, an assembly comprising a sleeve 18 and a ring 16 which are fitted consecutively over a tube 12 to which the coupling is to be fitted, a nut 14 screw-threaded on to the body 10 which when advanced theretowards moves the ring relative to the sleeve, thereby deforming an annular lip at the body end of the sleeve into biting engagement with the surface of the tube 12 (Fig. 2, not shown). Further advancement of the nut causes the sleeve assembly to move as a unit, moving the ring 16 into the flared entrance 36 of the body 10 and causing the end of the tube to ride up the nose 26, flaring it outwards into intimate contact with the deformed ring 12 (Fig. 3, not shown). In the final position the deformed ring and flared tube-end completely fill the annular space between the flared surfaces of the body 10.
