Abstract
A leno-woven selvedge (Fig. 13, not shown) has groups of weft threads 38a, b, c bound together by two pairs 21:22, 23:24 of warp threads, one pair being over and one pair under the weft groups alternately, the pairs crossing each other between the weft groups. In Figs. 17 to 22 (not shown) the threads 21,22 are passed through the eyes (not shown) of needles 150,151 which are shed in unison and have a gap 153 between their ends. The threads 23,24 pass through slots in two plates 165,180 that are shed in unison oppositely to the needles 150,151, the plate 180 being spring loaded to lag behind the plate 165. In Fig. 17 the needles 150,151 are at the bottom and the plates at the top of their respective strokes. In Fig. 19 the needles have started moving up and the plates down causing the threads to move to the opposite extremities of their slots and to grip onto the needle 150. As the relative movement continues the thread 24 will pass through the needle gap 153 (Fig. 20) followed by the thread 23 (Fig. 21) so that the threads cross and change their respective positions so that, as movement continues, the needle passes through the threads 23,24 (Fig. 22) which are then at the opposite hand to Fig. 17. The groups of wefts are laid when the leno threads are at their extreme positions.
