Abstract

A pile fabric loom has stationary pile wires (24) extending through the healds (16), (17) and reed (20), which can be twisted intermediate their ends so that jacquard controlled pile warp healds (58) lower their eyes (65) to one side or other of the pile wires (24), depending upon the hand of the twist, so that loops of pile are formed over the wire. The loops are bound in by the weft. The pile wires (24) have members (31) that are operated on by camoperated combs (36) to twist them and, in conjunction with the jacquard control may be arranged to float pile threads either in the base fabric or as pile floats.
